PUERTO RICO!

July 19, 2010

So I was fortunate enough to go to Puerto Rico with work and what do you know it, I was able to see one of my cousins!  I have cousins everywhere don’t I?  Thanh Thanh and Mario just so happen to be in San Juan the same time I was.  They live in Rincon, PR (on the other side of the island) but just so happen to be in San Juan while I was there.  Who woulda thunk it could have worked out so good?  It was great to see them!  We didn’t get much time to visit at the family reunion so it was nice to have some more time.  Wish I could have visited with Mario a little longer but he had to go put Miss Maitu to bed.  Maybe next time!  It was great catching up with Thanh Thanh!  She is so fun!

Me and Thanh Thanh at their hotel - we got to have dinner together! Great fun!

It was great having time with them...wish it could have been longer! Hopefully we will meet again soon - Love you guys! (Mario, me, Thanh Thanh and of course beautiful baby Maitu)

Typical Thanh Thanh picture - head in the clouds daydreamer!

Beautiful Baby Girl. Maitu was very skeptical of the new folks - she didn't crack a smile. Of course she hadn't had much sleep that day either. I'll chalk it up to that so I don't feel bad I didn't win her over!

She was more interested in chewing on her spoon! What a cutie pie!

I was there with work so I dragged my co-hort, I mean, my co-worker Gwen with me.  Couldn’t have asked for a better person to spend my time in Puerto Rico with!  We had a nice trip, both work and the bit of the “sites” we saw.  Thanks Gwen for taking one for the team!

Picture of Gwen, Me and Thanh Thanh. Lots of fun!

There is one story worth telling from our trip.  Gwen and I had to go get some gas in our rental car and we went out looking the evening before we were flying out.  It was still light outside – thank goodness.  We found a place to get gas and I should have taken the hint that it’s not the safest place when the guy taking payment for the gas was in a building that was barricaded with bars and bullet-proof glass.  Well, when we finished pumping the gas and got back in our car.  Right in front of us was a police car that had stopped and 3 police officers got out of the car and the last one that came out of the back seat pulled out an assault rifle.  They were just parking to go into a Chinese restaurant to eat.  I’m not an expert in guns (okay, I know nothing about guns) but that thing looked like a machine gun or something that could do A LOT of damage!  The last time I saw one of those was also the first time – at LAX right after 9-11.  Scary!  Gwen and I got out of there REAL quick and headed back to our hotel to stay put there until we left the next morning.  Lesson learned – be careful in San Juan, PR! YIKERS!
